Why You Should Hunt Down an Ice Cream Truck This Summer

[ad_1]

As a kid, you can’t wait for the years to pass so that you can live the glamorous life of an adult. Yet as a “grownup,” you know that “adulting” isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. The good news is that you can turn back the clock every once in a while with the activities you loved most in childhood! Nicole Booz, author of THE KIDULT HANDBOOK, shares why you should answer the call of the ice cream truck this summer.

It’s great that you’ve resigned yourself to cutting back on the sweets and maybe even working out every now and then. You should be very proud of the steps you’re taking toward a healthier you! Now I’m not here to play devil’s advocate, but don’t you want to enjoy the sweet things in life? I mean, hugs are great, but the occasional ice cream is too.

The ice cream truck was a quintessential part of summertime as a kid. You’d hear that tinkly wind-up-music-box tune—first in the distance, then closer as it wound its way through your neighborhood. And you’d grab your piggy bank money or change from your mom and run outside, heart pounding from panic that you’d miss out. Oh, there was nothing like an icecold Popsicle on a hot summer day! Even if it started melting within seconds of unwrapping and your hands got sticky right away, it was the perfect afternoon break. A visit to the ice cream truck is an oasis of sorts. That sweet afternoon treat represents calm and pure joy—no matter what else is going on in your life at the moment.

If you live in a neighborhood, hunting down your ice cream truck should be relatively easy. Keep an ear out for the classic jingle that the trucks typically play all route long. It’s their calling card to let you know that they’re nearby. If you’re a city kidult, make a midnight run to the convenience store freezer aisle. Country kid? Head to a dairy farm or farmers’ market for a midday ice cream break.

PRO TIP: You can find your local ice cream truck stops at IceCreamTrack.com. Cone or cup?
