TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) – Making sure animals are cared for during cold weather starts with providing basic needs including fresh water, food and shelter.
Indoor animals need to be groomed well and have their hair kept longer than usual, if possible.
Matting in the coat can cause heat loss and overtime an infection.
“Make sure that there are options provided for them to get away from the elements and you know and stay comfortable,” said
Veterinarian Zsigmond Szanto.
For aged or short hair pets you should provide them with a jacket, if possible.
Make sure your animals are getting proper exercise. Being left inside for longer duration’s can lead to health and behavior problems.
